Dr. Mitchell has been practicing Orthopedic surgery for thirty years in the Boston area. His expertise is diverse, with specialty interest in treating athletic trauma of all ages and reconstructive joint surgery in adolescence and adults. He treats common and complex cartilage, tendon and ligament disorders of major joints (shoulder, knee, elbow and ankle). He has extensive experience treating athletic trauma in the professional, world class, college and school age athlete. He performs minimally invasive joint resurfacing and joint replacement surgery of the shoulder and knee. His surgeries are done at the top rated institutions in the state, the New England Baptist and the Newton Wellesley hospitals. The New England Baptist Hospital is regarded nationally as a leader institution in treating Orthopedic conditions.
Dr. Mitchell’s curriculum vitae is highlighted by his professional training. As a former world class athlete and captain of Penn State University gymnastics team, he developed a natural interest in treating athletic injury. He did his specialty training in athletic trauma, treating the cadets of the United States Military Academy, West Point, New York, as their team Physician. He has been honored to serve as medical director for the United States Gymnastics Olympic team trials. He is a former Team doctor for the Boston Celtics, the United States Alpine Men’s and Women’s Ski teams, and is the current team Physician for Mt. Ida College athletics here in Brookline, Ma. Of interest is Dr. Mitchell’s commitment to personal fitness as it closely relates to conditioning activities needed in recovery from injury. He enjoys a variety of sporting activities and exercises regularly to maximize his performance of the Olympic style of weight lifting.
